Heating Requirements in This Industry
In the automotive supply industry, heating is found in paint and coating drying, plastic part forming, mould heating and surface treatment baths. Because of high-volume production, cycle time is critical; heaters that heat up and respond quickly have a direct effect on line efficiency. Strict quality audits also make measurement and traceability mandatory.
Typical Heating Applications
- Drying and curing on paint and coating lines
- Mould heating for interior and exterior plastic trim parts
- Heating phosphating, galvanising and cleaning baths
- Preheating parts before thermoforming and bonding
Which Heater, and Why?
- Quartz Tube Heater — Dries paint and coatings quickly with short-wave radiation and returns to full power soon after line stoppages.
- Double (Twin Tube) Quartz Heater — With two tubes in one body, it suits drying zones that need higher power in a confined space.
- Cartridge Heater — Inserted into bores in the moulds for plastic parts to provide local, precise heating.
- Cast-in Aluminium Heater — Provides uniform temperature over a wide surface in mould and platen heating.
- Acid Bath Heaters — Used in surface treatment baths with a body material suited to the chemical.
- Custom Furnace Heating Element — Made to suit the oven body in drying and tempering ovens.

Key Considerations
In drying applications, the wavelength of the radiation must be matched to the absorption characteristics of the paint or coating; short wave heats quickly, medium wave more gently. In mould heating, bore tolerance and sensor position determine repeatability from one cycle to the next. In baths, the sheath material is selected according to the chemical. On lines where process temperatures must be recorded, the thermocouple and controller should be planned together with the heater.
- In paint drying, short wave quartz heaters shorten cycle time compared with a conventional oven.
- In surface treatment baths, a body material suited to the chemical must be selected.
- In mould heating, a cast body offers an advantage in temperature uniformity.
- To record process temperatures, the sensor and the controller should be planned together.
Custom Manufacturing and Quotation
In automotive supply projects, the heater is usually made to suit an existing line or mould. For drying, the size of the drying zone, the surface to be heated, the line speed and the target temperature are sufficient for a quotation; for mould applications, the bore dimensions and a technical drawing are enough. Series production begins after the dimension list has been approved and the sample tested; the product code is fixed so that the same product is supplied on repeat orders.
