General Information
A chemical flask heater is made of resistance wire placed inside woven glass fibre, wrapping the outer surface of glass flasks and reactors. It is sewn to fit the spherical geometry of the flask exactly; this delivers uniform heat to the glass surface and prevents glass cracking caused by local overheating.
Its most important advantage over heating with an open flame or a hot plate is safety: there is no ignition source, it can be used in environments where flammable solvents are handled, and because heat is distributed over the entire lower surface of the flask, it provides uniform heating even without stirring.
The product is manufactured in standard sizes according to flask volume or custom-made to the reactor drawing. For temperature control, an external PID controller or an integrated step switch are offered. The outer surface can be insulated with ceramic fibre to reduce heat loss and improve operator safety.
