General Information
An air duct heater consists of tubular heaters arranged on a frame made to match a rectangular or circular duct cross-section. It heats the air flowing through the duct directly and is used in ventilation systems, drying tunnels and process lines.
The most critical parameter of this product is air velocity. The heater cools by transferring the heat it generates to the air passing over it; when air flow stops or slows down, the surface temperature rises rapidly and the element burns out. For this reason a minimum air velocity of 1.5 m/s is required and the system must always be commissioned with a fan interlock: when the fan stops, the heater must also switch off.
The elements are grouped into stages; for example, a 60 kW heater is switched in 3×20 kW stages for modulation according to demand. The terminal box is positioned outside the duct and houses a manual-reset safety thermostat.

- Ventilation ducts
- Drying tunnels
- Process lines
- Air handling units

Frequently Asked Questions
When air flow stops, the heater cannot dissipate the heat it generates and burns out within minutes. The fan interlock prevents the heater from switching on while the fan is not running; this is the single most important installation measure determining product life.
Dividing the total power into several stages allows only part of it to be switched on as required. This saves energy, reduces the sudden load on the supply and makes temperature control more precise.
