General Information
A flexible silicone rubber heater is produced by vulcanising resistance wire or etched foil between layers of fibreglass-reinforced silicone rubber. The total thickness is around 1.5 mm; this allows it to fit into places with limited installation space and to wrap smoothly around curved surfaces.
In foil heaters, the resistance circuit is formed by chemically etching a thin metal sheet. It gives a much more uniform heat distribution than wire winding and is preferred in laboratory and medical applications where temperature differences are critical. The wire-wound version is more economical and sufficient for general-purpose use.
The most common installation mistake is operating the heater in free air. A silicone heater cools by transferring the heat it generates to the surface it is in contact with; when operated unmounted, the silicone burns within a few minutes. With adhesive mounting, degreasing the surface and pressing the heater down so that no air bubbles remain are decisive for product life.

Yes, the self-adhesive version is intended for permanent mounting and cannot be removed and re-applied. For removable applications we recommend mounting with hook-and-loop tape or mechanical clamping.
