General Information

Heating cables are constant output heaters that distribute power evenly over long distances. The inner conductor is resistance wire, covered with high-temperature insulation, then a metal braid shield and an outer jacket. Frost protection of pipelines, keeping tank surfaces warm and floor heating are typical applications.

The critical rule in this product group is this: a constant wattage cable must never be wound overlapping itself. At crossing points the power per unit area doubles, the cable cannot dissipate its own heat and the insulation melts. Winding must always be spaced and in a single layer, with the required total power set by the winding pitch.

The shielded construction serves two purposes: it provides mechanical protection and creates an earth path, allowing use with a residual current device. Residual current protection is mandatory in wet or outdoor applications. For temperature control, a thermostat or sensor placed on the pipe surface is used.
