General Information
A drum heater works by wrapping a heating element placed inside a silicone or glass fibre body around the drum. It is used to make resins, oils, honey, chocolate and chemical products that solidify in winter flowable again, as well as to maintain process temperature.
The heater should be wrapped around the lower third of the drum. The heated liquid rises, the cooler liquid sinks and natural circulation is established; in this way the entire volume is heated. When wrapped around the upper part, this circulation cannot form and only the top layer heats up. It is also important not to energise the heater while the drum is empty — without liquid, the body cannot dissipate the heat.
Sizes are produced as standard for 25, 50 and 200 litre metal and plastic drums and for 1000 litre IBC tanks. The product is supplied with an adjustable thermostat and a safety thermostat; in versions used on plastic drums, the temperature limit is set lower.
