General Information

In a ceramic insulated band heater, the resistance wire is threaded and wound through interlocking ceramic beads. This construction allows the wire to expand freely, eliminating the mechanical stress that limits life in mica insulated heaters. The ceramic body operates safely up to 650 °C.

The second advantage of the beaded construction is insulation. Because there is ceramic mass and an air gap between the wire and the outer sheath, most of the heat is directed inwards, towards the barrel, and losses to the outside are reduced. As a result, a ceramic band heater of the same power heats the barrel faster than its mica equivalent and energy consumption drops.

The outer surface of the body can be covered with stainless steel sheet or a ceramic fibre blanket. In high-temperature applications, air cooling channels can be built into the band; used together with a cooling fan, this enables rapid temperature reduction and shortens cycle times in production runs that require colour changes.
