General Information

Acid bath heaters are produced for corrosive environments that stainless steel cannot withstand. In galvanising, anodising, pickling and chemical treatment baths, the liquid contains hydrochloric, sulphuric or nitric acid, and a standard immersion heater is perforated within weeks.

The solution is to enclose the heating element in a chemically resistant sheath. A quartz glass sheath offers the broadest resistance to most acids and, being transparent, allows the condition of the element inside to be checked visually; its only drawback is fragility. PTFE coating is more impact-resistant but cannot be used above 200 °C. A titanium sheath is the most mechanically robust option and is preferred particularly in chloride environments.

In this product group the watt density is kept low. Because the air gap between the sheath and the element slows heat conduction, exceeding 3 W/cm² causes the inner element to overheat. Continuous monitoring of the bath liquid level and the use of level-protected control are mandatory.
